“A new chapter of bilateral relations between Iran and Greece has been opened,” said President Hassan Rouhani of Islamic Republic of Iran on Thursday during his meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Pointing to the latest visit of the Greek PM to Tehran, President Rouhani asserted that full and immediate implementation of the agreements reached in Tehran can cement the bases of the future ties of the two countries.
“Banking relations forms the basis for the economic ties,” Mr. Rouhani put stress on the resumption of banking ties between the two countries, “and simultaneously the private sectors of the two countries should be encouraged for joint projects and activities.”
The Greek PM in this meeting for his part stressed that Athena is willing to expand ties and deepen relations with Tehran in all areas, especially economic, and voiced his hope to have Greece as a bridge between Iran and Europe. He asserted that implementing the road map agreed in Tehran can put this idea into practice.
“The process to realize the agreements brokered in Tehran has kicked off and they can strengthen the ground for more Tehran-Athena relations,” said Alexis Tsipras after inviting President Rouhani to pay a formal visit to Greece.
